Skin Neddling with Dermaroller

Skin needling uses tiny needles to stimulate the skin. The needles immediately trigger a proliferation of fibroblasts, to treat fine lines & wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and improve skin texture. It also facilitates in the transdermal delivery of active skin care ingredients to cells in the dermal layer of the skin.

The Dermaroller treatment uses a roller with 192 fine needles embedded into it. The needles make multiple pinpoint puncture wounds in the dermis. This dermal damage stimulates the production of collagen and elastin by increasing the electrical charge in the surrounding cells. The body reacts to the epithelial injury with electrical signals that control a cascade of wound healing mechanisms. The increase of energy in the injured cells forces fibroblasts to migrate to the area and forces them to proliferate and transform into collagen fibres. Because it creates dermal damage while leaving the epidermis intact, the healing period is rapid and there is no risk of permanent structural damage, sun sensitivity, skin colour loss or hyperpigmentation.

Skin needling can also treat sensitive areas other treatments cannot, such as neck, the backs of hands and under the eyes. Because skin needling has no heat, it means there is no thermal injury, which means it can performed on any skin type and skin colour.

Topical local anaesthetic cream is applied before the procedure and most patients aren’t able to feel any pain. Immediately after the treatment the skin is flushed, looking like mild sunburn. Mineral skin care is recommended to maximize the healing response. The mineral copper is applied post treatment to help heal the skin but also to stimulate it. copper is required for maximum skin health and stimulation. Copper completes the D:CREASE system. The mineral manganese is preferred when treating pigmented skins. manganese helps to lighten and brighten the appearance of pigmentation. Manganese also has healing benefits due to it being a mineral and completes the D:LIGHT system. 12-24 hours later there is no visible evidence a treatment has been performed. If the skin is at all pink the next day, mineral makeup will easily cover any evidence. Patients are able to return to work and normal activities the following day post treatment.

Multiple treatments, usually three, are usually necessary to achieve significant improvement in the appearance and depth of lines, scars and pigmentation. Treatments effects are cumulative and can be seen six to eight weeks after the initial treatment. In comparison to the prolonged recovery time required by fractionated laser resurfacing and chemical peels, the short recovery time makes skin needling an excellent alternative method of improving the skin.
